Mary Hunter has always been fascinated by animals and animal behavior. She earned a Master of Science in Behavior Analysis from the University of North Texas in 2013. Prior to that, she completed a degree in the biological sciences from the University of Chicago.

Mary believes that an understanding of the science of behavior can help us find smarter and more humane ways for training our animals.

Mary has trained a wide range of species, including dogs, horses, cats, rats, raccoons, Patagonian cavies, macaws, and more. She also spent four years helping run the training program and volunteer program at a local horse rescue.
Mary Hunters’s combination of hands-on experience and academic knowledge gives her a unique perspective when working with pets and their owners. In addition to training animals and their owners, Mary serves as the president for The Art and Science of Animal Training, a non-profit organization that provides educational programs for both pet owners and professional animal trainers. Mary also gives workshops and presentations to help pet owners and professional trainers learn more about the science of animal behavior and animal training.
In addition, Mary is a full member of the Association for Behavior Analysis International and has presented her research at the organization’s annual convention.

In 2019, Mary and Dr. Jesús Rosales-Ruiz published their first book: “PORTL: The Portable Operant Research and Teaching Lab.”
